Understanding the Neurobiological and Pyschological Effects of Violence and Abuse - By Dr. Lori Haskell

There are new understandings of neurobiological structures and processes in the brain and body that relate to victim's emotional and behavioural post assault reactions and memory recall. These understandings are particularly vital to those in positions to receive and respond to a complaint.
Renowned clinical psychologist, Dr. Lori Haskell will discuss the biological nature of trauma; how specific experiences impact victim trauma, memory, reactions, and behaviour, and how senior administration interpretation of this behaviour impacts sexual assault investigations.
Who should attend?
Front line staff who often have an ongoing supportive role with students (i.e. residence, co-op advisors, academic advisors, AccessAbility advisors, UW Police, etc.) The hope is to review the neurobiological impacts of trauma and sexual assault and discuss how this might present over time when working with a survivor.
SCHEDULE:
8:30am - Doors open with coffee, water and tea
9:00am - Workshop begins
11:30am - Lunch break
- Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lunch, or visit a UW Food Services location
12:30pm - Workshop resumes
3:00pm - Workshop concludes
